Cadianda and Uzumlu in Fethiye Turkey

The Uzumlu village (Yesiluzumlu) is located in 16 km from Fethiye. In the mountains above the village of Uzumlu Fethiye archaeologists discovered the remains of an ancient Roman settlement - Lycian Cadianda, it’s ruins date back to the 5th century BC. Also Cadianda near Fethiye is known as the last city that joined the Lycian Union.

The city is situated at an altitude of 400 meters above sea level, it is encircled by the wall that was built of large stones. There are four Lycian rock tombs located near the entrance, and three of them were created in the IV century BC and by its outlines resembles the houses that did not survive to the present day. In the survived fourth tomb on the south side you can see the figure of a man sitting on the couch and there is a figure of a rider with a spear and shield on the north side.

In the north of the entrance to the Acropolis you will see the ruins that belonged to Doric temple. Next to it there is the bath that was built by large hewn stones during the reign of the Roman Emperor Vespasian. On the hillside where the city is located you can find a small theater. The western part of the theater’s orchestra in Cadianda Fethiye was well preserved, but the scene was completely destroyed.

The 900 meters long foundation was laid at the center of the city from west to east. It is believed that the stadium was built here and this hypothesis is confirmed by a lot of written evidence found during the excavations that describe the athletic festivals in Cadianda Fethiye. There are a lot of pedestals for sculptures of athletes located in the vicinity of the stadium.

Cadianda and Uzumlu Turkey are great places to discover masterpieces of Turkish winemaking, “dastar” weaving and a history that goes back centuries.
